Moms

Moms!I have not received detailed reports from all of you who are memorizing Psalm 119, but I’m beginning to suspect that this chart offers a fair breakdown of the group.

I love moms! There’s a lot of vision there, and motivation, and discipline. And memorizing Psalm 119 together is a great way to pass those traits on to children. It looks to me like a lot of families are going to be sending their kids off to college someday with the spiritual discipline of Bible memorization pretty solidly established in their lives.

Not that children appreciate every minute of that process, of course; but the end result is worth the effort. Take heart, moms, from John Ruskin, quoted by Charles Spurgeon in his commentary on Psalm 119:

“It is strange that of all the pieces of the Bible which my mother taught me, that which cost me most to learn, and which was to my child’s mind most repulsive–the 119th Psalm–has now become of all the most precious to me in its overflowing and glorious passion of love for the law of God.”
